Many have trekked to Midwood, Brooklyn for this pizza, and much has been said about this pizza. I had it for the first time tonight and boy, is it perfect. It's light, crunchy, and thick enough, all at the same time. The crust is reminiscent of a cracker, but also crunchy fried bread that feels as if this is the standard by which all pizza should follow.
Once you've got the crust down, the other ingredients, the cheese, the sauce and basil, are all perfect. It's $5 a slice, and worth it. Place has been around forever, and it's worth trying. -

Di Fara is well known for its slices and line. Its the most well known written and spoken about pizza in Brooklyn. The pizza artist is an older gentleman by the name of Dom but when I found my way it seemed the younger generation has taken over. I had two very expensive slices of pie.One topped with cheese and the other with dried cherry tomatoes. The cheese slice is the " New York" style hand tossed bendy slice, crispy crust. Very travel friendly. The square slice was deep dish the thick crusty, zesty sauce and cherry tomatoes and not so travel friendly. Two slices cost me $12. And let the beautiful letdown began....Was it the best slice ever? No. Have I had better locally? Yes. The slices were just ok. I'm glad I made the trip and had a enjoyable walk. I would have never made to the neighborhood if it wasn't for the pizza. Thankfully it was a rainy day in Brooklyn and I didn't deal with a line. 10 minute wait at the most.
Go to DiFara for the experience, the journey and walk or drive in Brooklyn. Please don't go hangry because you may have a wait. -

Came here after a trip to Coney Island. Got here around 4:30pm and thought the wait time wasn't going to that bad. Boy was I wrong!
The restaurant bit was closed for a private event so we ordered through the little window in the corner. The process was straightforward until they told us it was going to be a 40 minutes wait. We decided to go ahead and wait anyway. They took down our name and order. No payment required at this time. We were told to come back within 40 mins.
We came back at 40 mins wait and was told it was almost ready. 15 minutes later we were still waiting. We eventually got our pipping hot pie after 1 hour and 15 minutes of waiting. Luckily there are three seats right at front which I sat on and waited and waited.
Excitedly we picked up the pizza and was told there was a cafe two doors down where we could eat the pizza which was pretty convenient.
The pizza was definitely fresh and delicious. It does taste different to all other pizzas I have tasted. The base seems crunchier and the actual pizza itself seems saucier - in a good way. I definitely enjoyed the pizza and devoured every single bite.
Bottom line is:
Would I have it again? Absolutely YES
Would I make a special trip out to buy it? No, not unless I am in the area
Would I wait over 1 hour for it? Absolutely NOT
Half and half pizza was $34. Individual slices start at $5. The restaurant is cash only. -

Di Fara is madness. Insanity. It will make you crazy.
After a ridiculously long subway ride from Manhattan my pizza cohort and I landed at this historic pizza joint in Brooklyn. The original owner made it famous and their are some disgruntled people who claim the new ownership is ruining the place.
They have had some problems recently. Board of health, mice, tax evasion. They were shut down and opened again after shelling out a 6 figure I.R.S. bill. Di Fara is so famous the governor and mayor of NYC where asked for comment when they were shut down.
So now that we have that ugliness behind us let's tell you about some more. Di Fara has been famous for a loooong time. People come from far and wide to try it. When you arrive you will see the old school exterior. The inside is a dump. There is one small and one large table to sit at. They have two beverage coolers which were mostly empty but they did have Pepsi in the glass bottle. Love that! The front door is broken and is held open by a cable. I waited fifteen minutes for my order to be taken. The prices are ridiculous. 5 dollars for a slice of pizza? Really??? They offer square and traditional slices. I ordered one traditional with pepperoni and one square.
Then we waited and waited and waited some more. Efficiency is not a priority here. There are three employees working. One taking orders, one making pies (two at a time) and one working in the kitchen. We had some wonderful conversations with the patrons waiting for their pizza. We watched in awe as the pizza maker brought a whole pepperoni square pizza out of the oven. The price tag? 36 dollars!!!! Boy was it beautiful though. Still cracking from the oven they throw a plentiful amount of parmesan cheese over the pie and snipped fresh basil over the top.
After about one hour of waiting my slice of traditional pepperoni pizza arrived. It was scalding hot so I waited a bit for my first bite. Wow!!!!! Oh boy was this delicious pizza. Incredible sauce, pepperoni. The fresh basil added a real zen element. Crispy crust. Pizza Heaven. I enjoyed my square slice as well but the pepperoni was one of the best things I have ever eaten.
Some day, while crossing the George Washington Bridge, I will place an order for a traditional pepperoni pie, make the long trek to Brooklyn (And probably still be waiting for it.) Perhaps the original owner made a better pizza but I don't know the difference. This was one of the best pizzas of my lifetime! -

This place exceeded my expectation. It's an old, dingy, small Brooklyn corner pizza spot. Nothing fancy here, 40+ minute of a wait time for a $5 slice or $30 plus pie.
So grab couple of friends and have a classic pie, the wait is worth it. Thin & crispy crust with the right amount of sauce and cheese. The sauce is not your typical tomato base. It reminded me of vodka sauce.
The Difaro special pie wasn't as good and the ingredients weren't evenly distributed on the pie.
